Berlin Underground Tours
Berlin underground tours take you into the bunkers and tunnels that normal sightseeing never reaches. The best known are run by the Berliner Unterwelten association, a registered group that has shown visitors the city's underground structures since it was founded in 1997. This page compares the tours in the association's 2025 flyer, with prices and lengths, explains the ticket rules, and describes the bookable alternative: Berlin Story Bunker, a WW2 air-raid shelter near Anhalter Bahnhof you can visit with a simple entry ticket. It sits alongside the wider coverage of Berlin WW2 tours, where you can also compare guided walks past the Führerbunker site and the Topography of Terror. The bookable tours are compared on Berlin WW2 tours.

Quick answer Bunker tours at a glance
Berlin underground tours by the Berliner Unterwelten association cost €17 to €20 (reduced €13 to €15) and last 90 to 120 minutes, per the 2025 flyer. The entry point is the Dark Worlds tour, a WW2 civilian air-raid shelter under Gesundbrunnen station. Tickets are sold online only, up to 30 days ahead, and are refunded only if the association cancels the tour. Berliner Unterwelten Tours Compared
The Berliner Unterwelten association runs several regular tours from different meeting points in Berlin. The figures below come from the association's 2025 flyer.
The Tour List
All prices below are the standard adult prices in euros. The Dark Worlds, flak tower, Cold War bunker and Fichtebunker tours cost €17 with a reduced rate of €13 and last 90 minutes each. The Dresdener Straße tour costs €19 and lasts 110 minutes. The Under the Berlin Wall tour costs €20 (reduced €15) and lasts 120 minutes. The Dark Worlds tour also runs in Danish, Dutch, Spanish, French and Italian as well as English and German. Several tours carry age restrictions: the flak tower tour and the Dresdener Straße tour admit only visitors aged 18 and over, and no tour is suitable for children under 7. A secondary source notes that the English Dark Worlds tour often books out 2 to 6 weeks ahead in peak season, so reserve early.
The association is based at Brunnenstraße 105, 13355 Berlin, near S+U Gesundbrunnen, and it has rented the Gesundbrunnen shelter from the BVG since 1 March 1998. The millionth visitor came through on 10 November 2010 and the two-millionth on 19 February 2015. If you want to read more about the fortifications themselves, the separate guide to the flak towers in Berlin covers their history in depth.

How to Choose Between Them
For a first Berlin underground tour, the Dark Worlds tour is the usual entry point because it explores a civilian air-raid shelter and also runs in Danish, Dutch, Spanish, French and Italian. The flak tower tour is the only way into the Humboldthain flak tower ruin, since the site cannot otherwise be entered, and the tour describes the three pairs of flak towers that were intended to defend Berlin. The Cold War bunker tour and the Under the Berlin Wall tour both start near Badstraße and suit visitors interested in the Cold War and the Wall rather than WW2.
The Dresdener Straße tour, on Dresdener Straße, is for ages 18 and over and includes a 450 m tunnel. The Fichtebunker tour in Kreuzberg is the outlier geographically, reached by U Südstern. If the wartime government quarter is your priority, a guided Berlin WW2 tours on the surface will cover more of that story in one booking.

Tickets and Rules
The association sells tickets only through its own online shop, and the conditions are stricter than most city tours. Read them before you book, because there is no way to undo a booking.
Booking and Cancellation
Tickets for English tours are sold through the online shop at tickets.berliner-unterwelten.de, and there are no ticket sales at the meeting point. Tickets go on sale up to 30 days in advance. Once bought, they cannot be exchanged, cancelled or returned.
The only exception is a cancellation by the association itself, in which case refunds are paid. Tickets are unnamed, so if your plans change you may pass your ticket on to someone else. Gift vouchers come in €20, €40, €60 and €80 and are valid three years.
The 2025 flyer also announced no-tour dates around Christmas and on 1 January, so check the shop for your date.
Rules Underground
Photography and filming are forbidden on all tours. The temperature underground is 10 °C all year, so warm clothes are recommended even in summer. Sturdy footwear is obligatory, sandals and flip-flops are not accepted.
The structures are not suitable for disabled visitors, the FAQ mentions several staircases, no chairs and no visitor toilets on the tours. Large luggage and prams are not allowed and there is no storage at the meeting points. Children under 7 cannot take part, and a secondary source says children aged 7 to 13 attend at parents' discretion with a recommendation of age 14 and over.
The 2025 flyer also lists an exhibition, 'Hitler's plans for Berlin: Myth of Germania', at U Gesundbrunnen, open Saturdays 11:00 to 17:00 at €6 (reduced €5).

Dark Worlds: The Gesundbrunnen Shelter
The Dark Worlds tour explores a civilian air-raid shelter under Gesundbrunnen station.
What the Shelter Was
The shelter lies under Gesundbrunnen station in the north of Berlin. It is a civilian air-raid shelter of the Second World War, built to protect ordinary residents during bombing raids rather than any government function. The Berliner Unterwelten association has rented the structure from the BVG, Berlin's transit authority, since 1 March 1998 and has guided visitors through it ever since.
The tour lasts 90 minutes and costs €17 (reduced €13) per the 2025 flyer. The meeting point is Brunnenstraße 105, 13355 Berlin, near S+U Gesundbrunnen. Besides German and English, the tour also runs in Danish, Dutch, Spanish, French and Italian.
What to Expect on the Day
The visit is a guided walk, and the FAQ notes that tours involve several staircases with no chairs to sit on and no toilets. It is 10 °C underground all year. You cannot take photographs.
Because no tickets are sold at the meeting point, print or download your online ticket before you travel. A secondary source reports the English tour often sells out 2 to 6 weeks ahead in peak season, so book as early as the 30-day window allows. If the shelter visit leaves you wanting more, the association's flak tower tour at Humboldthain is the natural follow-up, and the flak towers in Berlin guide explains how the tower system worked.

The Bookable Alternative: Berlin Story Bunker
If the Unterwelten tours are sold out or the age limits and no-photo rules put you off, the Berlin Story Bunker near Anhalter Bahnhof is the other way to stand inside a real WW2 air-raid shelter.
A Bunker You Book Like a Museum
The Berlin Story Bunker is a WW2 air-raid shelter at Schöneberger Straße 23A, 10963 Berlin, close to Anhalter Bahnhof, about 8 minutes on foot from the Topography of Terror. It is open daily 10:00 to 19:00 with last admission at 17:30. On this site the bookable option is the ticket at $20, which includes entrance to the bunker and the Berlin Story Museum, an audio guide in German, English, Spanish, French or Italian and skip-the-ticket-line entry, with free cancellation 24 hours ahead.
Unlike the Unterwelten tours, no minimum age is stated, though the venue advises parental discretion for very young children because of the Holocaust content. Plan about 3 hours. The full detail is on the Berlin Story Bunker page.
- 6,500 square metres of floor space over three floors
- 'Hitler - How could it happen' with 38 themed areas, a full-size Führerbunker replica and a model of the Führerbunker
- 'Germany 1945 to today' with Berlin Airlift artefacts
- A third exhibition on memes and digital propaganda
Which One Should You Pick
Pick a Berliner Unterwelten tour if you want an original structure and a live guide, and you accept fixed times, no photos, 10 °C cold and the age rules. Pick the Berlin Story Bunker if you travel with children under 7, want flexible daily opening or simply could not get an Unterwelten ticket. The Story Bunker is a museum in a bunker, not a bunker tour, so there is no guide walking you through rooms as on the Gesundbrunnen shelter visit.
Many visitors do both: the replica of Hitler's bunker office at the Story Bunker, which shows a full-size reconstruction and a 1:25 scale model, pairs well with the surface story told by the guided WW2 tours in Berlin that stop at the real Führerbunker site car park.

Berlin Underground Tours: Questions
Is there an underground museum in Berlin?
Yes in two forms. The Berliner Unterwelten association runs guided tours through original underground structures such as the Gesundbrunnen air-raid shelter, from €17 for 90 minutes per the 2025 flyer, and the Berlin Story Bunker ticket gives museum-style entry to a WW2 shelter with an audio guide.
How much do Berlin underground tours cost?
Per the 2025 flyer, the Dark Worlds, flak tower, Cold War bunker and Fichtebunker tours cost €17 (reduced €13) and last 90 minutes, the Dresdener Straße tour costs €19 for 110 minutes, and the Under the Berlin Wall tour costs €20 (reduced €15) for 120 minutes. The bookable Berlin Story Bunker ticket is a separate product at $20.
Can children join a Berlin bunker tour?
No tour of the Berliner Unterwelten association is suitable for children under 7, and the flak tower tour and the Dresdener Straße tour require ages 18 and over. A secondary source recommends the Dark Worlds shelter from age 14, with ages 7 to 13 at parents' discretion. Families with younger children usually pick the Berlin Story Bunker entry ticket, for which no age limit is stated.
Do I need to book Berlin underground tours in advance?
Yes. English tours of the Berliner Unterwelten association are sold only through the online shop, up to 30 days ahead, and there are no sales at the meeting point. A secondary source says the English Dark Worlds tour often books out 2 to 6 weeks ahead in peak season. For flexible plans, the Berlin Story Bunker ticket offers free cancellation 24 hours ahead.
Are Berlin underground tours cold?
The temperature underground is 10 °C all year, per the association's 2025 flyer, so warm clothes are recommended even in summer. Sturdy closed shoes are obligatory and sandals are not accepted. There are several staircases, no chairs and no toilets on the tours listed above.
Can you take photos on a Berlin underground tour?
No. Photography and filming are forbidden on the Berliner Unterwelten tours, both the flyer and the association's FAQ state this. Photography is not allowed inside the Berlin Story Bunker either, so neither option suits a photo visit.
